Impact: 110 beehives installed

Beehive fences represent one of the most innovative and effective solutions to human-elephant conflict. By harnessing elephants' natural aversion to bees, these fences protect crops while providing an additional income source through honey production.

Why Beehive Fences Work

Elephants have a well-documented fear of African honeybees. When elephants approach a beehive fence and disturb the wire connecting the hives, the bees emerge and the elephants retreat. It's a natural deterrent that requires no harmful intervention.

Building Your Fence

A typical beehive fence consists of beehives hung every 10 meters, connected by a wire that runs at elephant head height. When an elephant touches the wire, all hives along the fence vibrate, causing bees to emerge along the entire perimeter.

The Honey Bonus

Beyond protection, each hive produces valuable honey. Families along our 10 beehive fence installations now harvest honey twice yearly, creating a significant additional income stream while protecting their crops.
