Impact: 89 elephants monitored

Every morning before dawn, a dedicated team of community scouts sets out across the Jipe landscape. Their mission: to track elephant movements and alert farming communities before conflicts can occur. These are the Elephant Whisperers of Jipe.

Understanding the Challenge

Human-elephant conflict has long been one of the greatest conservation challenges in the Lake Jipe ecosystem. As elephant corridors intersect with farming communities, crop raids can devastate a family's entire harvest in a single night, creating resentment toward wildlife conservation.

Community-Led Solutions

Rather than relying on outside experts, Eco Jipe trained community members themselves to become scouts and early warning responders. These scouts combine traditional knowledge of elephant behavior with modern GPS tracking to predict movements and warn farmers in advance.

Results That Matter

With 89 elephants now being monitored regularly, crop raid incidents have dropped significantly. More importantly, community attitudes toward elephants have shifted from fear and hostility to appreciation and coexistence.
